akintay who prompted me with J2, one of them has a minor injury (=cuts his finger while making dinner or something like that!) and the other takes care of it :D
All Jensen hears when he opens the door to Jared’s trailer is cursing. It’s not a rare occurrence, far from it even. It’s the choice words that make Jensen stop for a second and stare.
Jared’s usually pretty tame when it comes to cursing, even watches his language on set so to not offend anyone. So to be greeted by those kinds of words is very rare. Jared only ever does slip up when he’s emotionally drained, too tired or physically hurt. Considering their cruel schedule these days it could be all of the above.
He doesn’t exactly rush into the trailer but he abandons the lazy pace from before. Jared sits hunched over on the couch, Sadie at his fee, looking guilty and nosing at Jared’s elbow. It’s not the first time that one of their playful games ended up with Jared banging knees or getting rug burn.
This time there’s blood though. Not the first time either, but it almost never happens. Jensen feels instantly sorry for Sadie, who now looks at him as if she is pleading for help. Doggy eyes - only one pair though, Sadie's alone in her quest to protect Jared now - that are asking to take care of Jared, and Jensen is a sucker for that.
Jensen veers off into the tiny bathroom, grabs the first aid kit he made Jared stash there after the last time he sliced his finger open and wets one of the small towels as well. Then he kneels down in front of the couch, takes Jared’s chaffed hand into his.
“Don’t say a word,” Jared huffs, hisses a little when Jensen begins to dab the blood away from the scrapped skin.
“Wasn’t going to,” because there’s no need to. Jared knows what Jensen’s thinking, has been ever since the first time all those years ago when Jensen actually tried to lecture Jared on how safe it is to play with his huge beasts inside the trailer instead of out of it.
Jared huffs again but smiles a little.
While he cleans the wound - even adds some medicinal cream to it afterward - Jensen eyes Sadie, who’s now lurking behind the couch and only occasionally dares to peer around the corner.
“You should know better than to indulge him,” Jensen finally says and almost laughs out loud when his only answer is a heavy sigh and a dog that comes slowly inching back toward them. It’s like Sadie’s saying I know. Can’t help it. Look at him.
And yes, Jensen doesn’t have to look at Jared to know he’s sporting the same puppy dog look his dog is right now.
When all is said and done Jensen joins Jared on the couch. Sits close and actually gets the chance to really look at Jared.
“You okay?”
Jared nods, then shrugs and then shrugs again.
“What’s up, Jay?”
“Just miss him, ya know?”
And again, no words needed.
Jensen knows, he misses him, too. As does Sadie, who’s now curled up on both their feet. Words won’t really help anyway. It’s just a small movement, not really noticeable but it brings them closer together, hips touching, shoulder aligned.
It’s a small thing, but when Jared turns his head just right, Jensen leans in. Lips, soft and pliant, open up under Jensen’s and they both sigh into the kiss.
They’ve been closer recently. This thing between them, that one thing that has been there for years now. It has somehow shifted into something else, different and so much better. It feels like they’re finally on the track they are supposed to be on.
They just sit there, kiss slow and gentle. It’s so simple and that’s what the need right now.
“Thanks for taking care of me,” Jared whispers against Jensen’s lips. And it’s for more than just the hand.
Jensen’s thumb slides over the scratches on Jared’s warm skin and he just smiles, kisses Jared once more.

Date: 2012-03-25 06:41 pm (UTC)From:Yes, I can imagine they are still feeling the loss of Harley. Such a beautiful boy.
I never got the chance to meet him, but I can easily guess that he was a real sweetheart, and that everyone still misses him.
A lovely tribute to a wonderful dog. Thanks for sharing this with us. There aren't too many of these fics floating around.

Date: 2012-03-30 11:06 pm (UTC)From:So, so, so sad. Sweet, but sad.
It probably sounds weird, but Harley's death hit me really hard last year. He's been such a stalwart character in both fics and fandom itself, so it's heartbreaking that he's not a part of it any more, you know? Lol, silly, right? My apologies, I become the world's biggest softy when it comes to animals!
Anyway, I've gone off topic lol. Love it when Jensen takes on his more mature role of the pair and takes care of Jay; my favourite kind of J2 fic. Can completely see this happening, as upsetting a subject it is! Well done.

I know what you mean about Harley's death getting to you, same here and it still does sometimes.
And I love getting long comments. Never apologize for getting off topic around here... and it really wasn't far from the topic anyway.. LOL Glad you liked that story all in all :)
